    Lufthansa cancels over 1,000 flights due to ground staff walkout

    After a one-day walkout by ground staff scheduled for Wednesday, Lufthansa has decided to cancel more than 1,000 flights in advance of the walkout, which comes just as Germans are getting ready to head off on their summer vacations. The strikes and staff shortages at Lufthansa and other airlines have already forced thousands of flights to be canceled and created hours-long waiting times at airports, frustrating holiday-makers after COVID-19-related lockdowns.
     
    Lufthansa cancels over 1,000 flights due to ground staff walkoutThe German airline canceled 678 flights at its Frankfurt hub, most of which were scheduled for Wednesday, and 345 at Munich. According to Lufthansa, more than 130,000 passengers are affected. After the strike called by labor union Verdi ended on Thursday, there could be a few more cancellations and delays on Friday.

    Nearly 22,000 Pakistanis deported from Gulf over four months for visa violations and begging highlights tightening immigration enforcement across the Middle East. The written statement submitted by the Ministry for Narcotics Control detailed that Saudi Arabia accounted for the vast majority of repatriations, expelling 15,500 Pakistani nationals during the four-month window. The United Arab Emirates deported 3,803 individuals, followed by Oman with 1,606 deportations, Bahrain with 521, Qatar with 429, and Kuwait with 97. A significant subset of the repatriated individuals involved 4,628 absconders, 1,294 individuals who served prison sentences, and 472 individuals specifically identified as beggars.
